Guardamar

Guardamar del Segura has a varied range of apartments and houses. Guardamar is divided by the N-332 national road with the sea on the western side and the inner land of Guardamar on the eastern side. About Guardamar del Segura

Guardamar del Segura is located 10 kilometres from Torrevieja and La Mata. Guardamar has 16,000 inhabitants. The village takes its name from the river La Segura that flows through the centre of Guardamar. In the past the village of Guardamar has been a place of strategic importance. The Castillo de Guardamar served as a fortress against attacks from the sea during and following the Middle Ages. Nowadays the fortress is open for public.

Atmosphere in Guardamar

Guardamar has a very relaxed atmosphere. Guardamar is a relatively quiet village with all of the ingredients that one may expect of a Spanish coastal town. There is no mass tourism and a limited number of high-rise buildings. Guardamar is a stone's throw from the famous Parque Natural de la Mata. The village has two different weekly markets, one in the centre of the village and one in Guardamar Campo. These markets, which northern Europeans would characterize as street fairs, are very popular and are visited weekly by thousands of people from around the whole region.
